About Hauppauge Heroes
Welcome to the Hauppauge Heroes page! Our mission is to unite our community in the fight against cancer. October 16th is a special day known as Hauppauge Heroes Day. This day is dedicated to anyone in our community who is fighting or has lost the battle to cancer.
Hauppauge Heroes Day - October 16th

On this day, everyone can wear their Hauppauge Heroes shirt in honor or remembrance of a loved one who has had cancer. It's a symbol of unity, support, and love for those battling this disease.
Light the Night Walk - October 19th
​
Following Hauppauge Heroes Day, we will gather 300+ Hauppauge families to join 5000 other Long Islanders at the Light the Night Walk at Eisenhower Park. Together, we'll walk in honor or remembrance of those dear to us who have faced cancer. Wearing our Hauppauge Heroes shirts, we will proudly represent our support for Hauppauge and all our loved ones.
Honoring Penny Wood

This year, we have the special privilege of honoring a brave 5th grader named Penny Wood, who has was diagnosed with leukemia in 2023. Her courage inspires us all and reminds us why we walk: to bring hope, awareness, and support to those fighting cancer.

About Penny Wood
At Hauppauge Heroes, our inspiration and drive come from the incredible strength and courage of Penny Wood, a remarkable fifth grader from the Long Island Community. Penny's battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia has not only shaped her life but also ignited a unifying movement within our community.
Penny's Journey
Penny was diagnosed with leukemia in April of 2023, a moment that profoundly changed her world and her family's. Penny has shown amazing strength, courage, and resilience during her treatment. She is polite, funny and inspiring as she deals with a ups and downs of treatment. Overall, Penny is doing well and despite having some set-backs last year, Penny recently returned to school and dancing. The Wood family is looking forward to Penny’s expected treatment end date of June 2025.
Our Mission
Our mission is to unite Hauppauge behind this noble cause, creating a community that supports those facing similar struggles. We aim to bring people together to not only raise awareness but also contribute to cancer research.
